#Albania | #Gjejza | 16-year-olds have set up a support application for domestic violence victims.

A new online application has been created to help domestic violence victims in Albania. “Gjejza ” (find your voice) was developed by three 16-year-old Albanian women, in the hope that it will help to address a huge problem in the neighboring country and raise awareness to the general population, where according to research one in two women was abused last year.

Due to a large number of victims of domestic violence, 16-year-olds Arla Hoxha, Dea Rrozhani and Jonada Shukarasi have created an app (application) that can connect 24/7 victims of domestic violence, with key help points such as shelters, support groups, and the police. It also provides information on gender-based violence, inspiring stories of women who have overcome a state of violence, and breathing and meditation exercises. The app is available on the Google Play Store platform for free and is for Albania only.

Known as ” D3c0rders “, the three girls learned how to encode and create applications four years ago, through a program implemented by the U.S. Embassy in Tirana. The girls have received widespread support and congratulations from senior government officials.

“Violence against women is a huge issue in Albania and affects us as teenage girls as well because we see the early stages of this issue even in our colleagues, our friends,” said Jonanda Shukarasi, one of the girls who developed the app.

In addition, Iris Laurasi, head of the national phone line for abused women, stresses: “One in two women is a victim of violence”, while a new report by the Agency for Security and Cooperation in Europe (ASCE) found that almost 9 out of 10 women consider violence against women to be common in Albania and that 97% of victims violence at home never report it to the police.
